Gen Z Doesn’t Want to Be Famous #shorts
Gen Z just gave up on being influencers.
Three years ago, a Morning Consult poll found that more than half of Gen Z wanted to be an influencer when they grew up.
They saw the MrBeast, the lifestyle creators, the millionaire YouTubers, and it looked like the dream.
But a newer Yahoo poll shows that number has dropped to just 5%.
In only three years, “influencer” went from one of the most desired careers to barely above lawyer.
And what they want instead is more interesting.
18% said they want to be a successful but non-famous tech entrepreneur.
17% said a respected intellectual or professor.
14% said a doctor.
So the shift isn’t that Gen Z lost ambition.
They just changed the definition of success.
I see this inside my own agency. We’ve hired a lot of young, ambitious people, and most of them aren’t chasing fame. They want a real career. They want to build skills, do meaningful work, and be respected for being good at something.
And honestly, it makes sense.
They watched the influencer era up close. They saw the burnout, the canceling, the pressure to perform, the loss of privacy, and the way fame can turn your whole life into content.
So the lesson is simple.
Don’t chase visibility first. Chase mastery.
Fame can fade fast.
Become someone people trust because you’re actually good.
