Self care of a business owner with Bipolar Type 1

Save this for the days you feel guilty for needing basic care.

Because you are important – even when the world keeps moving like you’re supposed to be fine.

I have bipolar type 1….

And one of the RUDEST lessons I’ve learned is that the world does not stop for a “bad day.”

Deadlines don’t reschedule themselves.
People don’t suddenly become gentle.
Your to-do list does not develop empathy.

Life just… keeps going.

So I had to learn a different skill: being my own advocate before things spiral.

Sleep is a hard boundary for me (7-8 hours average per night – no exceptions).
Sometimes I wake up earlier or can't sleep… But then I HAVE to catch up ASAP.

Like, non-negotiable. Not “I’ll scroll and call it rest” sleep – actual sleep.

Food matters too. Not perfect. Not macro-tracked, color-coded, influencer-food. Just consistent nutritious food (I love bananas LOL).

Rest isn’t a reward for being productive.
It’s maintenance!!!

It’s how I stay regulated enough to make good decisions.

And boundaries? They’re not me being dramatic. They’re the guardrails that keep me on the road!

I used to treat my needs like optional.

And sure – you can force it for a while. But the bill always comes due. And it’s never cheaper later.

You matter – on the good days, and on the days where existing feels like a full-time job.
Take care of yourself like you plan to be here for a long time.
