One of the fastest ways to grow on social is to stop trying to be universally liked.
One of the fastest ways to grow on social is to stop trying to be universally liked.
(heads up – we're seeing a lot of people doing this now in a HARMFUL way – including leaders… I do NOT recommend this. I use this RARELY in my business)
That is usually where the flat, forgettable content comes from.
Too careful.
Too polished.
Too “let me make sure nobody could possibly disagree with this.”
And then people scroll right past it because there is nothing to react to.
I’m not saying go pick fights on the internet.
I’m not saying drag politics, religion, or chaos into your content for sport.
I’m saying this:
say the thing you actually believe
that other people are too nervous to say out loud
That is where the spark is.
That is where comments come from.
Shares.
DMs.
Debate.
Attention.
And before somebody gets weird, no, controversial does not have to mean cruel.
It can be:
I think women make better CEOs than men.
I think most gurus are full of BS.
I’m a better mom because I have childcare during the work week.
Most business and marketing books are the same ideas repackaged with a prettier cover.
That kind of thing.
Specific.
Opinionated.
True.
Because the internet does not reward beige.
It rewards clarity.
And one of the easiest ways to become more clear is to let people see where you actually stand.
Not fake controversy.
Not rage bait.
Not borrowed opinions because they “perform well.”
Your real ones.
The ones that make the right people go:
ohhhhh she really means that
and honestly? same
That is when content stops feeling like content and starts feeling like a person.
And people follow people way faster than they follow generic advice.
So if your content has been feeling a little too safe lately, here is your reminder:
you do not need to be louder
you need to be more honest
That is usually the part that makes people pay attention. #socialmedia #contentmarketing #personalbranding #marketingstrategy #onlinebusiness
