If you’re a newer or intermediate social media manager, this moment will probably happen to you at some point.
A potential client loves your work… until they hear the price.
Then comes the question:
“Could you do it for $300 a month?”
Years ago, I didn’t know how to handle that conversation. I would panic a little. I’d wonder if I was charging too much. I’d feel tempted to squeeze my services down just to make the deal work.
But over time I learned something important.
When someone asks for a much lower price, the answer isn’t to keep the same workload and quietly take a pay cut.
The professional way to handle it is to adjust the scope.
Less budget means fewer deliverables.
Less access.
Less time.
You’re not saying no to the person. You’re simply redefining what is possible at that price point.
That one shift helps protect your time, your energy, and the quality of your work.
And for newer social media managers especially, learning how to hold that boundary early can save you a lot of burnout later. 💪
It doesn’t make you difficult.
It makes you clear.
Have you ever had a client ask for a huge discount? How did you handle it?
