“If you don’t know where you’re going, any road will get you there.”
Some days I look at my life – business, health, friendships, family, the dreams I’m still carrying – and I think, am I actually going anywhere? Or am I just very busy?
And this is where our minds get sneaky.
Lewis Carroll nailed it when he wrote, “If you don’t know where you’re going, any road will get you there.”
Which sounds whimsical until you realize how often we’re judging progress without zooming out far enough to see the road.
Mike Dooley says it more bluntly: “Thoughts become things. Choose the good ones.”
Not in a woo way. In a pay-attention-to-what-you’re-measuring way.
Progress rarely announces itself.
It doesn’t tap you on the shoulder and say, “Hey, today mattered.”
Most of the time it looks like repetition. Or rest. Or choosing the boring right thing instead of the dramatic wrong one.
Your mind will tell you:
– you should be further
– you should be better by now
– other people figured this out faster
– this season doesn’t count because it’s not flashy
Lies. All of it.
Sometimes the progress is that you didn’t quit.
Sometimes it’s that you rested instead of spiraled.
Sometimes it’s that you handled something with more grace than you would’ve last year.
Sometimes it’s invisible until months later when you suddenly realize, oh… I don’t react like that anymore.
And if today feels slow – that doesn’t mean it’s wasted.
It just means you’re still on the road.
