“If the girl I was 5 years ago could see me right now, she’d be so proud.”
This quote wrecks me:
“If the girl I was 5 years ago could see me right now, she’d be so proud.”
And it’s not because everything is perfect now.
It’s because five-years-ago me knew the truth:
she was tired, she was trying, she was guessing
she was holding her breath through half of her life
she was hoping it would all add up to something
Everything has changed since then.
And look at YOU!!!
You know things you used to beg the universe to teach you.
You have boundaries you didn’t even know you were allowed to have.
You’ve survived stuff that was supposed to take you out (or at least take you offline for 6 months).
You can do hard things without making them mean something about your worth.
Also: you’re comparing yourself to an imaginary future version of you who has no problems and perfect hair and a color-coded calendar.
Meanwhile your old self is staring at your real life liiiiike:
“Wait… we’re doing THAT now?”
“We figured out MONEY?”
“We can say no???”
“We don’t panic like we used to???”
“We’re actually… okay???”
So here’s your tiny assignment (not optional, sorry):
1. Pick ONE thing you can do now that past-you couldn’t.
2. Write it down. Literally.
3. Let yourself feel proud for 10 seconds without immediately moving the goalpost.
Keep going.
Your younger self is already proud. She just wants you to notice.
